The third theme for the 2019 Creative Challenge posted on the Sylvanian Families Collectors Community Forum is related to Valentines´s Day so that´s what today´s story is about.
"Valentine´s Day is almost here".Betty Hazelwood said to herself when she stopped and stared at the window of the new cake shop.
Contrary to what you might think Betty wasn´t looking forward to this holiday.
She has a wonderful husband and she is very much in love with him but if the person you love is a chef and is working that day, Valentine´s Day means a night alone.
She was used to spending most evenings on her own but the idea of spending one more Valentine´s Day without the company of her husband didn´t make her happy at all.
On her way to do some grocery shopping she passed by Salome´s dress shop. She didn´t have any intention of buying anything but she couldn´t help but stare through the window that, once again, reminded her that Valentine´s Day was only a few days away.
"Are you kidding me?" Betty sounded a bit offended. "Maybe if my husband didn´t have to work at "your" restaurant on Valentine´s Day I would buy a dress to go out with him but there´s no point in buying a new outfit to spend the evening knitting and doing
word search in my living room, don´t you think so Savannah?" She said ironically.
Savvanah realized her question wasn´t appropriate and she sincerely apologized but she noticed Betty was still feeling a bit bitter.
Hugo Trunk and his wife Savvanah are the owners of the Harvester Restaurant where Basil Hazelwood works as a chef.
"Hugo, why don´t we give Basil the day off on Valentine´s Day?"
"A day off? On Valentine´s Day?" Hugo asked in surprised.
"Hugo! Betty hasn´t had a night out on Valentine´s Day since she married Basil.I think she deserves a special treat. Suzzete is an excellent cook and I can help in the kitchen too.Sebastian and you can serve the tables."
Finally, after much persuasion Hugo allowed Basil the day off. When Suzette and Sebastian arrived at the restaurant, Savvanah and Hugo told them about their decision and they totally approved.
A few days before Valentine´s Day Hugo asked Basil:
"Have you got everything ready for Valentine´s Day?"
"I have Mr. Trunk, I added some specials to the menu and I wrote the shopping list to get everything we need".Basil answered.
"I´m not talking about work.I mean about you and your wife. Have you got any plans with Betty?
"Well, I bought her a box of chocolates but we never make any plans.I have to work,Mr. Trunk. I promised Betty I will take her out on Monday, on my next day off".
"What would you say if I told you your next day off is Valentine´s Day, Basil?" Hugo asked.
Basil´s reaction to Hugo´s question was a loud thank you and a big hug.
"You´re so considerate and kind, Mr.Trunk. I can´t wait to tell Betty."
"You should thank Savannah. She was the one who suggested giving you the day off"
"Thank you so much, Mrs Trunk. You´re so thoughtful! Betty is going to be over the moon when she finds out".
"You´re welcome, Basil. You and Betty deserve it!" Savvanah was very pleased to see him so excited.
Valentine´s Day has arrived and Betty is all set to spend the evening in her quiet living room. She made herself some tea, she placed some of the chocolates Basil gave her in a bowl, she bought some magazines to read, she had her knitting basket next to her favourite armchair,a word search puzzle book and a radio to listen to some romantic music and love stories on her favourite radio station. Her daughter Evie was also at home so they will have a chat and some tea together.
"It wasn´t a bad plan after all", she thought to herself.
She was concentrated on her word search puzzle
when suddenly Basil came into the living room with a wide smile on his face.
Betty was very surprised to see her husband wearing his Sunday clothes.
"Why are you dressed up like this to go to the restaurant,Basil?"
"Because you and I are going out for dinner"
"What are you talking about, Basil?" Betty
looked at her husband with amazement.
"I have a day off, Betty!.I don´t have to work this evening so we can enjoy a night out!Come on, take that apron off and wear something nice."
"But, we can leave Evie on her own!"
Everything is under control, Betty. Evie is going to have a sleepover at a friend´s house so it´s just you and I tonight."
Betty couldn´t believe what she was hearing it but she was elated. Her first night out on Valentine´s Day in fifteen years!
She ran up the stairs to her bedroom to change her clothes.
She just wished she had a new dress to wear for this special occasion but she didn´t really mind wearing one of her old dresses.
But when she opened the wardrobe she couldn´t believe her eyes.
There was the red dress she stared through the dress shop window and a pair of matching shoes and bag!
She felt like Cindirella after getting the astounding help of her Fairy Godmother.
Betty felt so lucky to have such a wonderful husband!
She dressed up and went down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs was her "prince charming" waiting for her.
Basil complimented Betty on her looks and she thanked him for such a special gift.
Betty was on cloud nine. Actually, both of them couldn´t be happier!
Evie was also very happy for her parents and she was very pleased to go to a sleepover at her friend Esme Chantilly´s house.
"Enjoy your date night!" Betty wished her parents.
"Good evening. We have a reservation for a table for two in the name of Hazelwood". Basil said joking. It was funny to be at the restaurant as a guest instead of as a chef.
Hugo,Savvanah, Suzette and Sebastian were glad to see them."You´ll be our special guests tonight" Savvanah said.
"Thank you Savvanah and sorry for being so unfriendly to you last time we met". Betty apologized.
"Not at all, Betty. You were dead right. Forget about it and enjoy your night out" Savvanah said.
Hugo took them to a quiet corner table that Savvanah and Suzzete had set especially for them.
"Aww,how sweet!" Betty exclaimed when she read the word LOVE on the tablecloth.
Hugo brought them the menu.Basil knew it by heart but Betty was enjoying reading it from top to bottom. She found it hard to choose what to order. There were so many tasty dishes. She felt really proud of her husband for being such a good chef.
Both, Basil and Betty were enjoying a nice meal, the quiet atmosphere of the restaurant and the lovely background music.
Some other couples had also booked a table to dine out.
Cameron Moss and his wife Rowina are regular customers at the Harvester Restaurant and they couldn´t think of a better place to enjoy a delicious meal on Valentine´s Day.
Eustace and Victoria Truffle got a baby sitter to mind their twins. They deserve some quality time for themselves on this special day.
Rhys Chocolate hasn´t forgotten about Valentine´s Day this year. He wanted to treat his wife Patricia and made a reservation long time ago.
After a lovely dinner, Basil and Betty left the restaurant holding hands. Both were blissfully happy (and a bit merry after a couple of glasses of wine.)
It was getting dark and they kissed in the moonlight.
"Excuse me Cutata, what are you looking at?" Basil asked when he saw me lifting my camera to my eye to get one more shot of them kissing."Can we have some privacy, please?"Betty added smiling.
Oops! Sorry! I won´t take any more pictures. I understand you want to have some intimacy on your romantic night out so I´ll let you enjoy the rest of your Valentine´s Day.
They are such a loving couple, don´t you think so?
HAPPY VALENTINE´S DAY
"Excuse me Cutata...Can we have some privacy, please?"

And a sweet story, too! I love the red dress and the picture with the Harvester Restaurant Set up is marvellous!!
I enjoy you stories soooo much, dear Cutata! Thank you for sharing!!! <3
Hi Daniela!
EliminarThank you so much for your kind words! It makes me very happy to hear you enjoy my stories. I also enjoyed writing and setting up the different scenes of this story. It was fun but a lot of work too, especially when you have to put away everything once the pictures are taken.I wish I could display all my buildings in a room but lack of place is a big issue.
Have a nice weekend!
Beautiful story.
ResponderEliminarThank you very much for reading, Chill! I´m glad you liked it!
EliminarAs you can see your tablecloth tutorial was useful once again.
Have a nice weekend!
Oh, I just LOVE this story and all the photos!! And I love your names for them!!
ResponderEliminarHi Sophie!
EliminarThank you very much for your nice comment! Basil and Betty are their official names. I find the name Basil pefect for a Sylvanian chef.I love this couple!
What a wonderful, sweet story! I read it on my break from work and loved it. :) Betty and Basil sure deserved to spend the evening of Valentine's Day together, and I'm glad they could. The Trunks are so thoughtful. I loved seeing your Harvester restaurant. Such a lovely place, and wonderfully decorated as always! Loved seeing the other couples that visited the place and I'm happy for Eustace and Victoria as well, haha! The stories you wrote about them are some of my favourites in your blog. :)
ResponderEliminarI'm thinking of getting Evie's sleepover set at some point. She's so cute!
Thanks for a lovely story and pictures once again!
Hi Ayrell!
EliminarThank you so much for your kind words!I love the Hazelwoods and I really enjoyed writing this story. As you have just said, Betty and Basil deserved a night out on Valentine´s Day and I´m happy I made it posible with this story.
The Harvester restaurant is one of my favourite buildings. Even though I like the town series Delicious Restaurant, I like the vintage style of the Harvester Restaurant much more.I bought it second hand and the walls didn´t look their best so I wallpapered it and added curtains and tablecloths, the original ones were missing too.
Eustace and Victoria go out from time to time. They know Mary Roxy Renard will take care of their twins.
Evie is really cute. At least, Betty has the company of her daughter when Basil is working at the restaurant.
Have a nice weekend!
Just brilliant!! I absolutely LOVED it! Such a wonderful and heartwarming story, I will definitely read it again and again. As for your photos and set ups I am lost for words! Amazing work once again! You made the restaurant look so beautiful both from outside and inside, the idea with the tablecloth is adorable and the couple looks so much in love! Once again you have outdone yourself, bravo!
ResponderEliminarHi Sylvanako!
EliminarThank you so much for your kind words!Even though it took me a long time setting up the different scenes, I really had a great time. I wanted Basil and Betty to be together on Valentine´s Day and I´m really happy they were able to have a night out.I love the Harvester Restaurant. It´s one of my favourite buildings. I was over the moon the day I received it. I makes me really happy to know you enjoyed this story.
Have a nice weekend!
Wow, Cutata! Jut wow! I am constantly in awe of your amazing photos and stories and this one was no exception. It was amazing! Your setups are so detailed and well thought out.
ResponderEliminarThe Harvester Restaurant looks great! You did a great job of decorating the inside and outside. I have always wanted the restaurant, unfortunately it is very hard to come by!
I love the picture of Betty in her sitting room, and I love the photo of Betty and Basil standing in the moonlight together outside the shop. So sweet!
I am very happy for them that they were able to spend Valentine’s together. They’re such a lovely couple!
Hi Kelsie!
ResponderEliminarThank you so much for your lovely comment! It makes me very happy to hear you enjoyed my story and setups. I also enjoyed setting up the different scenes for this story. It was fun decorating the cake shop and the dress shop windows. As I don´t have a house for the Hazelwoods, I had to set up a living room for Betty where she can spend the evenings doing some of her favourite things while Basil is at work.
I wallpapered the Harvester Restaurant long time ago but I had to set up all the furniture and little bit and pieces to take the pictures. Unfortunately,I have to keep it storaged in a wardrobe as I don´t have place to display it at home.
Hope you can get the Harvester restaurant at some stage. I was very lucky to buy mine from a Spanish seller. At least, I didn´t have to pay a high price for postage. I haven´t bought anything from eBay lately. Shipping expenses are way too high, sometimes even higher than the item itself.
Have a nice weekend!
I enjoyed your story very much. The scenes were beautiful. My dolls Siiri and Iivari looked at the photos too and they liked them very much.
ResponderEliminarGreetings from sunny Finland!

Hi Sirkka!
EliminarThank you so much for your lovely comment. I´m happy to hear Siiri and Iivari liked my photos too. Send my regards to them.
Awwwhh what a cute story! Its nice that you base each srory on a different family- we haven’t seen much of the hazelwoods so far!
ResponderEliminarWhat was shown of their house looked very feminine and girly....Which worked for a valentines story!
The harvester restaurant looked like a well stocked and professional place to eat out and I loved the little window covers/curtains and the tablecloths...It makes a building look so much better, even with a simple flourish like that!
I always love when the dress shop is featured...It always looks so welcoming!
I can’t wait for the next story!!
Hugs xx
Hi Isla!
EliminarThanks a lot for your kind words!Valentine´s Day was perfect to write a story about the Hazelwoods. Betty has to spends most evenings without the company of her husband and I thought this year she deserved a special gift on Valentine´s Day. They are a very cute couple. I like the Harvester Restaurant just the way it is but I love decorating buildings. The plain walls didn´t look very well because they weren´t in mint condidition. I agree with you about the dress shop. I love this little shop. It took me a long time to get it and I´m delighted to have it on my village.
The theme for next challenge is about grandparents.I love sylvanian grandparents but I won´t be able to write a story .I´m stuck for inspiration and lack of time is the main issue.
A big hug!
Another great story, I have such a good time reading them that my boy friend started bothering me for I translate... and now -as he is enjoying the stories as much as I do- he is ALWAYS asking me "did she write another story ?"... at least twice a week LOL.
ResponderEliminarYou could print the stories as a booklet, like a french collector does, she sells her stories this way (like a printed booklet), but yours are far better !
Oh and I had a great laugh with the ""Excuse me Cutata...Can we have some privacy, please?" - This is the best quote ever !
Hugs
Arcadia
Hi Arcadia!
EliminarYour kind words made my day! Thanks so much!I find it funny your boyfriend is interested in my stories. Say hello to him! He seeems to be a very nice and thoughtful man.
I´m happy to hear I made you laugh, even for a few seconds. Hope you are feeling a bit better.
Hugs!
Hi Cutata.
ResponderEliminarReading through your story again, I'm still bowled over by the personality you manage to give your fuzzies within both your story and your marvellous photos.
It's one of those coincidences that I've just bought a couple of Sylvanian bundles that include the Trunks and the Hazelwoods. I already knew that the Trunks were cute, and I already had the young Twitch Hazelwood (and thought I was buying more siblings). However when I found they were adult Hazelwoods I was surprised how cute they were too!
Again, the end of your story is one of those classic moments. It will always make me smile.
